Australia
Distinctively emotive, soul- inspired pop singer/songwriter Alfie Arcuri hit the mainstream after he won The Voice in 2016. Since then, Alfie has headlined some of the biggest national television appearances including The State of Origin, Melbourne Cup’s Exclusive Bird Cage, Channel Nine's Carols by Candlelight and most recently Eurovision Australia Decides.
Alfie has spent the last few years collaborating with some of the world’s most famous songwriters both locally and in the US. His first single If They Only Knew released in July 2017 already has 3.5 million streams across all platforms and his second self-penned track Love is Love became the anthem of the Marriage Equality campaign in 2017, and Alfie an icon in LGBTI community for his openness.
After embarking on a national tour with Samantha Jade in 2018, Eurovision: Australia Decides saw Alfie perform live to an unprecedented SBS televised audience with his current single To Myself, produced by hit-maker Audius Mtawarira. The track was selected out of more 700 entries for the competition, and in less than a month had streamed more than 100,000 times.
As a songwriter, Alfie has penned tracks for Hoseah Partsch and Sheldon Riley's Winners single for 2018's The Voice Australia. His current single Same was recently a finalist of more than 4,000 entries in the 2018 Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition.
The Golden Stag trivia…
1. How and when did you discover your passion for music?
I’ve always loved music but I only discovered my true passion to perform 4 years ago when I hit the stage and sang at my sister’s wedding. A couple of weeks before her marriage day, she was diagnosed with cancer and I wanted to do something special to surprise for her on her big day so she could forget her worries - even for just a short moment - so I prepared a song to sing for her first dance. I will cherish that day for the rest of my life, not only did it mark such a special family moment in our lives but it was the first time I performed in public and discovered my true calling in life to perform and sing.
2. Define your musical style in one phrase.
I would describe it as soulful edgy pop.
3. Favorite musicians.
Sam Smith, Sia, Lewis Capaldi, Adele, George Michael, Whitney Houston.
4. What do you prefer to read / eat/do in your spare time.
In my spare time, I love to visit my favourite cafe in Sydney (which overlooks the ocean and the harbour boats) to reflect and write. Growing up on a farm, I love being outdoors: whether it's taking my little puppy for a walk, or gardening outside, I love to stay active in the fresh air. Being from an Australian/Italian family, food has always been at the centre of our household so we cook a lot and eat a lot - which I love - but it means I also try to hit the gym regularly as well! Spending quality time with my partner, my family, my niece and my nephew is high on my priority list and most probably my favourite past time of all:)
5. If not a singer, then you would be a …
Well funnily enough, before singing, I was a full time professional architect - I’m a certified architect by trade so would probably be working in the that industry if I wasn’t performing - or maybe even own my own cafe!
6. How do you define happiness?
To me, happiness is when everything just seems so light and fluffy - truly being present in the moments that you can’t put into words…when your problems seem so far away and you can't help but smile and be filled with gratitude.
