MĂDĂLIN VOICU

Coming from a family with deep roots in music, Mădălin Voicu, the son of the famous violinist Ion Voicu, initially approached music by studying the violin, then attending the courses of the National University of Music in Bucharest (where he studied with George Manoliu and Cornelia Bronzetti) and then devoted himself to conducting. He had concerts with the Bucharest Chamber Orchestra, founded by his famous father, and since 2001 is an honorary member of the French Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. His passion for rock materialized in 2004 when, together with Florin Ochescu, Puiu Breack, Cătălin Târcolea, Eugen Tegu and Berti Barbera, set up the Madrock band. The passion for genuine fiddler music and its preservation has resulted in a series of over 15 CDs made with some of Romania’s best performers, such as George Udilă, Ion Miu, Mieluţă Bibescu or Gina and Giani Lincan.

“I have lived with excitement and interest every edition of the Golden Stag Festival. I am honored to be part of the celebration of its 50 years of existence, which was not just easy, kind of emblematical not only for Romanian music, but also for all of us. I would like that now, at the semicentennial, which, by the will of the destiny, the Golden Stag celdebrates in the same year of the Centennial of the Great Union, music to strengthen its role as a binder among the people, and the festival to have a long life, wishing the same for myself! “, declared Mădălin Voicu.
